Highlights

  • Cu Chi Tunnels: part of a hand-dug network of more than 120 km on up to three levels, used during the war, with camouflaged entrances, kitchens, meeting rooms and field hospitals underground.
  • A guided walk through the forest: hidden trapdoors, the traps, an air vent disguised as a termite mound, and the smokeless Hoang Cam kitchen.
  • The tunnel crawl: a short section widened for visitors, entirely optional.
  • Steamed cassava with sesame salt and tea: the simple food the guerrillas lived on, served at the site.
  • A halal meal back in the city (optional): lunch or dinner at a halal restaurant in District 1, close to Saigon Central Mosque.

Halal Food and Muslim Travel Notes

  • Halal meals: there are no halal restaurants at Cu Chi, so we do not serve a meal there. If you choose a meal option, we take you to a halal restaurant in District 1, such as Al Nafisah, which holds halal certification from the Vietnam Halal Certification Agency, booked in advance for your group. More addresses are in our guide to halal restaurants in Saigon.
  • Snacks at the site: the cassava, sesame salt and tea served at Cu Chi are plain and contain no meat.
  • Mosque nearby: Saigon Central Mosque at 66 Dong Du Street is a short walk from most of the halal restaurants in District 1. Tell your guide if you would like to stop there before you return to your hotel.
  • Dress: light, loose clothing with long sleeves, closed shoes for the forest paths, a hat and insect repellent.

Who This Tour Suits – and Who Should Choose Another

  • Good for: travelers with a morning or an afternoon free, first-time visitors who want Vietnam’s best-known war site without a long day, and families with children aged 6 and over.
  • Choose another tour if you want the tunnels and the city sights in one day – the Cu Chi Tunnels – Ho Chi Minh City Muslim Tour 1 Day – or the tunnels with a boat trip in the Mekong Delta – the Cu Chi Tunnels – Mekong Delta Muslim Tour 1 Day.
  • Not included: central Saigon sights and the optional shooting range at Cu Chi.

Morning or Afternoon?

The morning tour is cooler and quieter: you reach the tunnels soon after they open, before the midday heat and most tour buses, and you are back in the city for a halal lunch. The afternoon tour suits late risers and travelers who land in the morning; it is warmer at Cu Chi, and from May to November a short afternoon shower is possible. Both follow the same visit, and both can end with a halal meal in District 1.

Customize Your Saigon – Cu Chi Tunnels Muslim Tour Half Day

  • Visit Ben Duoc, the quieter tunnel site, instead of Ben Dinh, on request.
  • Add a stop at Saigon Central Mosque or Ben Thanh Market on the way back.
  • Combine it with a Ho Chi Minh City Muslim Tour 1 Day on another day.
  • Upgrade to a larger private vehicle for families or larger groups.

Local Expert Notes

By Jimmy, Saigon Muslim Tours

  • The drive to Ben Dinh takes about 1.5 hours; morning traffic out of the city is the main variable, which is why we leave at 07:30.
  • The tunnel crawl is short but hot and narrow. Go in only if you are comfortable in small spaces; there is plenty to see above ground.
  • The tunnels close at 17:00, so the afternoon tour leaves your hotel at 13:00 sharp.
  • From May to November the forest paths can be muddy after rain; bring a light raincoat and shoes you do not mind getting dirty.

Highly recommended this Cao Dai Temple – Cu Chi Tunnels Muslim Tour 1 Day

We booked a full day private Muslim tour through Mr. Jimmy – Saigon Muslim Tours to Cao Dai Temple and Cu Chi tunnels a few days before arrival. Everything went smoothly and the tour itself was so lively and enjoyable due to the fact that the guide provided (Mr. Quan) and the driver (Mr. Thang) was so patient and informative. The lunch provided was Halal, delicious and huge for the four of us. I would definitely recommend this agency (Saigon Muslim Tours – Asia Travel Expert) and the guide Mr. Quan if you are looking for a tour around Ho Chi Minh City.

Thank you

Rashid
