Halal Restaurants in the Mekong Delta 2026: Every Halal Stop from My Tho to Chau Doc

Where can Muslims eat halal in the Mekong Delta? In two places. Thoi Son island near My Tho, the stop on almost every Mekong Delta day trip from Ho Chi Minh City, has two halal restaurants side by side, Bao Halal Mekong and Halal Mekong Restaurant, plus a mosque in My Tho that cooks halal lunches to order. Chau Doc, near the Cambodian border, sits beside the largest Cham Muslim community in the delta and has several Muslim-run halal eateries and many mosques. In between, the picture is thin: Can Tho has no halal restaurant open in 2026, Long Xuyen has one small Cham noodle stall, and we found nothing halal in Ben Tre town, Cai Be, Vinh Long, Sa Dec, Soc Trang or Rach Gia. No restaurant in the Mekong Delta is on the Halal Vietnam (HVN) certificate register. This guide ranks every halal restaurant we could verify, town by town, with ratings, halal status, hours and map links.

Last checked: October 2026 by the Saigon Muslim Tours team, who arrange halal meals on our Mekong Delta tours. For full town guides, see halal restaurants in Chau Doc, halal food in Can Tho and halal restaurants in Saigon.

How We Checked and Ranked These Restaurants

We searched Google Maps in English and Vietnamese for halal, Muslim and mosque listings in every main Mekong Delta town, read recent reviews of each place, checked Tripadvisor’s halal filter (it returns no restaurant for Can Tho or Chau Doc) and compared older halal travel guides, many of which list restaurants that have since closed. We only list a restaurant when it is Muslim-run, holds a halal certificate, or clearly states that its food is halal, and we leave out places with no recent reviews or with alcohol on the menu. Restaurants are ranked by Tripadvisor rating first, then Google Maps rating, weighing both the score and how many people have reviewed the place; none is listed on Tripadvisor yet.

We also searched the public register of Halal Vietnam (HVN). It certifies Mekong Delta food factories and seafood exporters, but no restaurant or hotel. You can search the HVN certificate register yourself. Since 1 July 2025, Tien Giang has merged into Dong Thap province, Ben Tre and Tra Vinh into Vinh Long, and Kien Giang into An Giang, so Google Maps may show new province names for familiar towns.

Closed Halal Restaurants in the Mekong Delta

Older guides still list these. This is what we found in October 2026.

Name Town What we found
Lion City Can Tho – Halal Kitchen Can Tho (9 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street) Permanently closed; it displayed a halal certificate and was the only certified halal restaurant we know of in the delta
New Delhi and Bombay restaurants Can Tho (Hai Ba Trung and Phan Dang Luu streets) Called halal in a 2020 guide; no longer on Google Maps
Halal Food Amine Mubarak Chau Giang, Chau Doc Still listed, but no review in the last two years; call before you go
“Cham Restaurant, 12 Le Loi” Chau Doc Named in some online guides, but no restaurant of that name at the address

Mosques in the Mekong Delta

Mosque Location Notes
Masjid Jamia Musulmane 49 Trinh Hoai Duc Street, My Tho Mosque of the town’s small Indian-origin Muslim community; halal lunches by pre-order
Masjid Salamat 11 Tran Nguyen Han Street, Long Xuyen Small mosque (surau) of the local Cham community; a recent visitor mentions building work
Mubarak Mosque and Jamiul Azhar Mosque Chau Giang hamlet, Chau Phong, Chau Doc The best-known mosques of the Cham Muslim community, across the Hau River from Chau Doc
Al-Ehsan Mosque Da Phuoc, north of Chau Doc Mosque of the Cham village of Da Phuoc

Can Tho, Ben Tre, Vinh Long and Cai Be have no mosque that we could find. Visitors are welcome outside the mosques; dress modestly, and non-Muslim visitors should ask before entering a prayer hall.

What Muslim Travellers Can Eat on a Mekong Delta Tour

  • Tropical fruit: the fruit orchards and floating markets sell pineapple, mango, rambutan, longan, pomelo and coconut, all naturally halal.
  • Coconut candy and honey tea: the coconut-candy workshops and bee farms on the islands make candy from coconut, sugar and malt, and serve honey tea with kumquat. Ask before trying flavoured candies, and skip the snake and rice wine that some stops offer to taste.
  • Elephant-ear fish and river prawns: famous Mekong dishes that are pork-free in themselves, but ordinary riverside restaurants cook pork in the same kitchen and serve alcohol, so eat them at a halal restaurant instead.
  • Hu tieu My Tho: the famous noodle soup of My Tho and the floating markets is made with pork bones; avoid it unless it is a halal or vegetarian version.
  • Vegetarian restaurants: in towns with no halal restaurant, such as Can Tho, a vegetarian (chay) restaurant is the safest choice.

Practical Tips for Eating Halal in the Mekong Delta

  • Plan lunch on Thoi Son island. If you are doing a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City, make sure your tour stops at a halal restaurant there; many standard group tours eat at non-halal restaurants.
  • Carry snacks for long drives. Between My Tho and Chau Doc there are few halal options, so take bread, fruit and halal snacks from Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Stay overnight in Chau Doc rather than Can Tho if halal dinners matter to you, or ask your tour operator to arrange dinner in Can Tho in advance.
  • Book ahead for groups. The halal restaurants on Thoi Son island close by late afternoon, and the mosque in My Tho only cooks to order.
  • Use simple Vietnamese. “Khong thit heo” (no pork), “khong ruou” (no alcohol) and “chay” (vegetarian) help when ordering.
