Mekong Delta Muslim Tour 2 Days – 1 Night Itinerary in Brief

  • Day 1 – My Tho, Ben Tre and Can Tho: Vinh Trang Pagoda, a private boat past the four river islets, coconut-candy workshops, a bee farm, a sampan ride and an orchard with fruit and folk music, a halal lunch, then the drive to Can Tho for the night.
  • Day 2 – Cai Rang Floating Market and back to Saigon: a 6:00 am boat to Cai Rang, a rice mill and canal villages, Ninh Kieu Wharf, Binh Thuy Ancient House and the Can Tho Museum, with a halal lunch on the way back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Highlights

  • Cai Rang Floating Market: recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2016; wholesale boats hang samples of their produce from tall poles so buyers can see what is on sale.
  • My Tho and Ben Tre by private boat: the Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Tortoise islets, with fish farms and floating houses along the banks.
  • Sampan ride: a hand-rowed boat along a narrow creek shaded by water-coconut palms.
  • Vinh Trang Pagoda: a 19th-century pagoda on the edge of My Tho that blends Asian and European architecture.
  • Binh Thuy Ancient House: an elegant early 20th-century home of the Duong family and a national heritage site.
  • Can Tho by the river: Ninh Kieu Wharf and the Can Tho Museum, which explains the history and cultures of the delta.

Halal Food and Muslim Travel Notes

  • Halal meals: both lunches are served at halal restaurants with certified halal food, booked in advance by our team. Dinner in Can Tho is not included; we can arrange it on request. For your nights in the city, see our guide to halal restaurants in Saigon.
  • Mosque: this tour does not include a mosque visit. Before or after the trip you can visit Saigon Central Mosque at 66 Dong Du Street; see our guide to mosques in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Dress code: light, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is comfortable on the boats and respectful at Vinh Trang Pagoda.
  • Hotel: one night in a 3–4 star hotel in Can Tho with breakfast; tell us your preferred standard when you book.

Who This Tour Suits – and Who Should Choose Another

  • Good for: travellers who want to see a real floating market at its busiest hour, families with children and older travellers – the walking is easy and the boats are private.
  • Choose another tour if you only have one day – the Mekong Delta Muslim Tour 1 Day covers My Tho and Ben Tre and returns the same evening – or if you also want the tunnels, in which case the Ho Chi Minh Muslim Tour 3 Days combines the delta with Cu Chi and the city.
  • Not included: hotel nights in Ho Chi Minh City, dinner in Can Tho and a mosque visit; all can be added on request.

Is 2 Days Enough for the Mekong Delta?

For most visitors, yes. Two days let you add the floating market, which a day trip from Saigon cannot reach in time, without long hours in the car on a single day. If you would like a slower pace, a homestay or a second floating market, add a third day and we will adjust the route.

Customize Your Mekong Delta Muslim Tour 2 Days – 1 Night

  • Upgrade to a 4-star or 5-star riverside hotel in Can Tho, or add a halal dinner on day 1.
  • Add nights in Ho Chi Minh City before or after the trip, with a city tour that includes Saigon Central Mosque.
  • Combine it with a day at the Cu Chi Tunnels, as in the Ho Chi Minh Muslim Tour 3 Days.
  • Start later on day 1 or adjust the return time to fit your flight from Tan Son Nhat Airport.

Local Expert Notes

By Jimmy, Saigon Muslim Tours

  • Go to bed early in Can Tho: Cai Rang is at its liveliest between about 5:00 and 8:00 am and quietens by late morning, so day 2 starts at around 6:00 am.
  • The boat from Ninh Kieu Wharf to Cai Rang takes about 30 minutes each way; bring a light jacket for the breeze on the river at dawn.
  • The rainy season runs from May to November. Showers are usually short, but from about September the rivers run high and some small canals can be muddy underfoot.
  • Wear shoes with good grip and pack a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent; the boats are open-sided and the sun on the water is strong by mid-morning.

I recently embarked on the Mekong Delta Muslim Tour 2 Days – 1 Night with Saigon Muslim Tours, and it was an incredible experience. This tour, covering Mekong Delta – My Tho – Ben Tre – Can Tho, offered an immersive look into the life and scenery of the Delta.

The highlights of the tour were undoubtedly the visits to the Cai Be & Cai Rang Floating Markets. These markets are among the largest in the region, bustling with activity and vibrant with the colors of goods hanging on poles, known as “cay beo.” Witnessing the traders living and working on their boats, which serve as mobile homes for generations, was a unique and eye-opening experience. The floating markets beautifully showcased the local culture and commerce, creating a picturesque river scene that felt like a living painting.

The convenience of the river taxis made exploring the area effortless, allowing us to navigate through the crossing canals with ease. This added a layer of adventure to the tour, making it both exciting and comfortable.

Saigon Muslim Tours ensured that our faith was respected throughout the trip. We stayed at Muslim-friendly hotels and enjoyed delicious Halal meals. When Halal restaurants were not available, the vegetarian and seafood options provided were of high quality and met all Halal guidelines. This attention to detail made the journey worry-free and enjoyable.

Overall, the Mekong Delta Muslim Tour 2 Days – 1 Night is perfect for Muslim travelers looking to explore the South of Vietnam without compromising their faith. The careful planning and consideration of our needs by Saigon Muslim Tours made this a memorable and enriching experience. Highly recommended!

Thank you
