• Choose a flight that lands by about 8:00–9:00 am on day 1; Cu Chi is around 1.5–2 hours by road, and leaving the airport early avoids the worst of the city traffic.
• Cu Chi is hot and humid all year. Wear light trousers or a long skirt you do not mind getting dusty, and bring water; the tunnels are narrow and low, so skip the crawl if you are claustrophobic.
• Notre-Dame Cathedral has been under restoration for years and work is expected to run to 2027 or later, so we see it from the outside. The Central Post Office next door opens 7:30 am–6:00 pm Monday to Saturday.
• In the rainy season (May–November) showers usually come in the afternoon, so on the Mekong day we start at about 8:00 am to enjoy the boat trip in the dry morning.
